#1874. This is a story about a group of English schoolboys plane-wrecked on a coral island. At first, it seems as though it is going to be fun; but then life on the island turns into a nightmare of panic and death. As they try to impose rules to maintain order, the group begins to break into two groups of savages. One group begins to follow Ralph and his side-kick Piggy, while another group grows in size and follow Jack. As ordinary standards of behavior collapse, the world the boys know collapses with them—the world of cricket, homework and adventure stories—and another world is revealed beneath, primitive and terrible.
